Our Fire Pit from the Longworth Room

What a wonderful weekend here at Prescott Wisconsin’s one and only Bed and Breakfast!

We always love our jobs, but sometimes we really love our jobs and this is one of those times when we love our jobs so much it doesn’t even feel like a job. Now don’t get me wrong, owning a B&B is work, but it’s work that comes with some pretty awesome rewards. What made this weekend so special? Two very special, completely separate, and completely amazing events.

First, we had another weekend full of great guests. So much so that we stayed up a wee bit too late relaxing and having fun by the fire pit on Friday night. Usually it’s early to bed, early to rise for us, but who could resist such a beautiful night! So we sat and chatted and just enjoyed “being” for awhile. It almost felt like we were guests too.

She says "YES"

But Saturday held the big surprise. We had some previous guests (who have become good friends) staying in the Silhouette Room and little to Suzi’s knowledge, Keith had been planning something pretty special for her for awhile. It’s not everyday that we get to be there when someone gets down on one knee and risks it all. Yep, Keith asked Suzi to marry him, right outside on the private patio of the Silhouette Room. We even have pictures to prove it! Of course she was surprised…and she said YES! Way to go Keith! You pulled off an awesome surprise. The look on her face was priceless. Like we mentioned before, it’s times like these that make us LOVE our jobs.

Now, the second thing that made this weekend so special…well…it didn’t technically happen on the “weekend”, but it sure made Monday nice!  The Arbor Inn was profiled in the “Local Focus” section of Kaia Magazine, a forward thinking, sustainable living ezine.  You can check out the article (and full issue) for free on their website.  They did a full review of our Inn, complete with pictures, and the article was so beautiful that it made us want to book a room at this dreamlike place they created.  Then we realized it was us that they were talking about.  What a treat and what a beautiful publication.  Thank you to Amanda Hearn, Publisher, and the Editorial Contributors for their consideration.  It really is an honor to be featured.

Last but not least, like Kaia mentioned in their article, for every 300 “LIKES” that we get on our Facebook Page we are now giving away a free room!  So like away and share it with all of your family and friends.  You just might find yourself here at the Inn doing what we do best…helping you to rest, relax and rejuvenate.

Last Minute Getaway from the Twin Cities and surrounding areas ??

Deb and I used to be notorious for last minute getaway plans. We would find ourselves in a nice new quaint town enjoying the local food and cocktails. Then we would decide to just stay instead of making the drive home. Being how Prescott, WI is such a place, where the local fine dining and fun bars can have that effect, the Arbor Inn can sometimes accommodate these last minute whims.

All you need are yourselves:
We supply everything you need for a spur of the moment getaway. Plush bath robes, so no PJ’s needed, soaps, bath salts, shampoo and even a toothbrush and toothpaste when requested.

Our online reservation system is set up to not show same day availability just in case we are out and about so just give us a call since we always have our phones with us. Sometimes we even have a last minute special that you may not have seen on line.

So if it’s Friday afternoon and you get a sudden urge to surprise your partner with a little last minute romance, don’t hesitate to call and see what we can do for you.

Some of the best times ever had are unplanned!

See you soon,
John

Geocaching

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the Internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.

How do you pronounce Geocaching?
You pronounce it Geo-cashing, like cashing a check.
Are there any other names for Geocaching?
The word Geocaching broken out is GEO for geography, and CACHING for the process of hiding a cache. A cache in computer terms is information usually stored in memory to make it faster to retrieve, but the term is also used in hiking/camping as a hiding place for concealing and preserving provisions.

What is a GPS device?

A GPS unit is a electronic device that can determine your approximate location (within around 6-20 feet) on the planet. Coordinates are normally given in Latitude and Longitude. You can use the unit to navigate from your current location to another location. Some units have their own maps, built-in electronic compasses, voice navigation, depending on the complexity of the device. You don’t need to know all the technical mumbo jumbo about GPS units to play Geocaching. All you need to do is be able to enter what is called a “waypoint” where the geocache is hidden.

Once you enter the coordinates (waypoint), you let your GPS lead the way and find the cache. Sound easy?

HA! Sometimes it is and sometimes you will be scratching your head. A cache container can be anything from a nice big box to a magnetic container the size of a pencil eraser.

Can you find the cache in this picture??

OK, that is a very quick view of what Geocaching is.

Why are you blogging of Geocaching you might ask?

Well we have been caching since 2001 and are addicts. Since we don’t get out as much now that we have the Arbor Inn, we would love to spread the word about this great activity. We also have a cache placed on our property and some of our guests have had lots of fun watching geocachers search for it during breakfast or while they are relaxing on the side porch. There are some great caches here in Prescott, as well as many, many close by.

If you are interested in learning more about the great sport of Geaocaching, let us help you. When you stay we can give you a crash course and set you up on a fun route in the area. Let us know ahead of time and even if you don’t have your own GPS yet we will set you up with one to use.

Happy Caching!!!!
